Tour Maras and Moray Full Day

To start our Tour to Moray and Salinas de Maras, we will stop by your hotel at 07:30 hrs. approx. and then head in our transport to Moray and the Maras salt flats, on our way you will be able to see beautiful Andean landscapes surrounded by trees and wildlife.

First we will visit the archaeological center of Moray which is located 38 km away. from the city of Cusco, Moray is considered an Inca agricultural laboratory built in the shape of rings specifically made up of 4 veryus or circles, which are concentrically shaped platforms, the deepest being 80 meters deep, with the lowest platform 36 meters in diameter.

Within the platforms, temperature variations range from 0.5 to 1.5 °C per platform, which can reproduce up to 20 different types of microclimates. It is said that the purpose of this archaeological center was to grow products that did not grow in this area.

Next, we will visit the Maras salt mines, as their name indicates, they are salt mines formed by around 3,000 small pools, each pool producing approximately between 50 to 80 kilos of salt per season, it is said that they served in the time of the Incas to supply this mineral to all of Cusco and its surroundings. These pools are irrigated by a spring of underground salt water. This process is completely natural and lasts almost two months for a growing season. Maras salt is highly sought after and the highest quality is the pink mineral salt. This mineral also has medicinal properties so do not forget to acquire them during our journey, since there are different products made from this salt.

Definitely, these two places have a lot of history and interesting facts that our guide will be telling you along the way. After having visited and toured these spectacular sites, our transportation will pick us up and we will return to the city of Cusco, where our tour ends approx. at 2:00 p.m., thus culminating our tour to Moray and the Maras salt mines.
