TRIP ITINERARY
Sacred Valley of the Incas Tour with Moray & the Salt Mines
Sacred Valley of the Incas Tour, featuring the captivating sites of Moray and the Salt Mines. Your journey commences with a 7:30 am pickup from your hotel, setting off in our private van towards the scenic Sacred Valley. At the Mirador of Taray, witness the breathtaking expanse of the Urubamba valley, adorned with traditional farming communities and majestic mountain peaks.
PISAC: Our first stop takes us to the archaeological wonder of Pisac, where over 2000 tombs form an immense Inca cemetery. Explore the intricate farming terraces carved into the mountainside during our 1.5-hour visit to this expansive Inca city. The ruins showcase original Inca architecture, offering a glimpse into the ancient civilization. Afterward, a brief 20-minute visit to the vibrant Pisac market precedes our journey to Urubamba for lunch, with the option of a delightful buffet of Peruvian cuisine or nearby restaurant choices.
SALT MINES: Discover the ancient Salt Mines (Salineras) near the colonial town of Maras, predating the Inca era. Adorning the hillside are hundreds of saltpans, utilizing a natural spring that releases water heavily laden with salt. This water is diverted into the saltpans and evaporated, yielding exceptionally high-quality salt. Notably, this site is one of the few places globally where naturally pink salt is found. The exploration here is a shorter walk compared to Pisac.
MORAY: Next, immerse yourself in the intriguing Inca site of Moray, renowned as “The Greenhouses of the Incas.” The site features terraces carved into a massive bowl, with varied microclimates depending on their depth in the bowl. It is believed that the Incas used Moray for researching optimal crop conditions. This stop is relatively brief.
OLLANTAYTAMBO: Concluding our tour in Ollantaytambo, spend approximately 1 hour exploring this extensive archaeological site. Delve into the remarkable architecture of the Sun Temple, marvel at the water fountains, the Incahuatana, and the impressive storehouses. Our journey culminates as we return to Cusco, dropping you off at your hotel around 6:30 pm.
