Recommendations

At least a few days must be spent in Cusco city to assist you adjust to the altitude.

Be ready since higher elevation also implies lower, nearly freezing temps. If you intend to do a multi-day excursion, dress warmly.

Keep hydrated at all times. You won’t sweat near as much as you normally would while hiking in a chilly area. When you realize you are dehydrated, it is sometimes too late. Altitude sickness and dehydration may make for a nasty mix. At high elevations like Ausangate, it is recommended that you drink at least two to three liters of water each day.

Drinking adequate water is crucial when walking at higher altitudes. While there are several streams and rivers along the path, we advise taking a water purification device or pills. The water isn’t always pure because of all the llamas and alpacas that are in the highlands. Having stomach problems or getting ill while traveling at a high altitude would be terrible situations.

When walking the Ausangate 7 Lakes, ensure that you have quality trekking gear. Keep in mind that when the weather changes and it starts to snow, hail, and occasionally even lightening, you are trekking above 4000 meters.
